We checked the iOS steps against Apple's iOS 27 documentation and Grindr's settings against its official help pages in October 2026. ## Method 1: Lock Grindr with Face ID (iOS 18 and later) 1. **Find Grindr on your Home Screen** Touch and hold the Grindr icon until the quick actions menu opens. 2. **Tap Require Face ID** On iPhones with Touch ID it says Require Touch ID. Require Passcode is also offered. 3. **Confirm** Tap Require Face ID again and authenticate. Grindr now asks for Face ID every time it opens. Grindr relocks each time you leave it. Apple says information inside a locked app won't appear in notification previews, search or Siri suggestions. **What this does not do:** your iPhone passcode opens every locked app. So does anyone whose face or fingerprint is enrolled on your phone. ## Method 2: Grindr's own lock ### PIN Go to **Select your Profile icon -> Select Settings -> Scroll down to the Security Section -> Select PIN -> Tap on the toggle to Enable PIN feature**. Requires a 4-digit PIN before Grindr opens. After you set the PIN, you can turn on Use Face ID. Grindr does not store the PIN, so if you forget it you have to delete and reinstall the app. This lock uses its own code, separate from your iPhone passcode. That makes it stronger against someone who knows your passcode.
