# How to hide apps on iPhone, app by app

> The Hidden folder works the same for every App Store app. What differs is what each app can hide inside itself, so every app gets its own guide.

## Quick answer

Touch and hold the app, tap Require Face ID, tap Hide and Require Face ID, authenticate, then tap Hide App. It takes about 10 seconds on iOS 18 or later. The app moves to a locked Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library. Apps that come with iPhone can't be hidden, and hidden apps still appear in Screen Time.

## The method that works for every app

1. **Find the app on your Home Screen** Touch and hold the the app icon until the quick actions menu opens.
2. **Tap Require Face ID** On iPhones with Touch ID it says Require Touch ID. You can also choose Require Passcode.
3. **Tap Hide and Require Face ID** Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.
4. **Tap Hide App** the app leaves the Home Screen and moves to the locked Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library.

### How do I hide an app on my iPhone?

Touch and hold the app on your Home Screen, tap Require Face ID, then tap Hide and Require Face ID. Authenticate and tap Hide App. The app disappears from the Home Screen, App Library and search, and moves to a Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library that opens only after Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

### Which apps can be hidden on iPhone?

Only apps you downloaded from the App Store. Apple says apps that come installed on iPhone cannot be hidden, and neither can the app set as your default web browser or an app marketplace in the EU. Built-in apps can still be removed from the Home Screen, and most can be locked.

### Where do hidden apps go on iPhone?

They go to the Hidden folder at the very bottom of App Library. Swipe left past your last Home Screen page, scroll to the bottom and tap Hidden, then authenticate. Apps keep working from there with all their data. You can also see a list in Settings, Apps, Hidden Apps.

### Do hidden apps still show up anywhere?

Yes. Apple lists four places where hidden app names can still appear: Settings, Apps, Hidden Apps (after authentication); Settings, Screen Time; Settings, Battery, Battery Health and Charging; and your App Store purchase history. Hiding moves the icon, not every trace of the app.

### Does hiding an app on iPhone hide it on my iPad?

No. Apple says the locked or hidden status of an app does not sync with iCloud, so it only applies to the iPhone where you set it. iPad has the same Require Face ID menu on iPadOS 18 or later, so hide the app there separately.

### Can I hide apps on iOS 17?

Not in a locked folder. Hide and Require Face ID arrived in iOS 18. On iOS 17 and earlier you can remove an app from the Home Screen so it lives only in App Library, but it still shows up in search and opens without Face ID.
