# What is Stolen Device Protection?

Published 2026-10-31 - Updated 2026-10-31 - By VaultForYou Editorial Team - Checked against iOS 27 - Oct 31, 2026

## Quick answer

Stolen Device Protection is an iPhone setting that adds a layer of security when you're away from familiar places. Sensitive actions then need Face ID or Touch ID with no passcode fallback, and some changes also need a security delay.

- **Turn on:** Settings -> Face ID & Passcode -> Stolen Device Protection.
- **Protects:** Saved passwords, Apple Account and passcode changes.

It is aimed at thieves who watch you type your passcode and then take the phone. Without it, the passcode alone can change your Apple Account password and turn off Find My.

## Frequently asked questions

### Should I turn on Stolen Device Protection?

For most people, yes. It stops someone who learned your passcode from using it alone to change your Apple Account or view saved passwords when the phone is away from familiar places. Biometrics and, for some changes, a delay are required instead.
