If they are really gone, turn sync back on with your Google Account or import your last HTML export. - **Check first:** ⋯ -> Bookmarks - **From sync:** Settings -> tap your name -> Sync -> Bookmarks - **From the .bak file:** No file on this device ## Restore bookmarks in Chrome on iPhone and iPad 1. **Look in the manager** the three-dot menu (⋯) -> ⋯ -> Bookmarks and search by name. Check every folder, including Other bookmarks and Mobile bookmarks. 2. **Check the profile** Make sure you are signed in to the same account as before. 3. **Turn sync on** Settings -> tap your name -> Sync -> Bookmarks. The account's copy downloads within a few minutes. 4. **Import an export** On a computer, import the last HTML export; sync brings it to the phone. Menu labels change between versions of Chrome (iPhone); the shortcut and the menu don't. ## The three ways back - **Sync.** If bookmarks sync through your Google Account, sign in on this device and turn bookmarks sync on (Settings -> tap your name -> Sync -> Bookmarks); the account copy comes back. - **Another device.** Chrome on iPhone has no bookmarks bar and can't install extensions. On iOS, Chrome's bookmarks are private to the app; Safari's are separate. If a computer that syncs with your Google Account hasn't synced since, turn its network off and export from there. - **An export.** Import your last HTML export from the bookmark manager. ## Why they disappeared The usual causes: a different profile or account was active, sync was turned off and bookmarks removed from this device, a deletion synced in from another device, or the profile was reset. Chrome (iPhone) doesn't delete bookmarks on its own. ## On a phone Chrome on iPhone has no bookmarks bar and can't install extensions. On iOS, Chrome's bookmarks are private to the app; Safari's are separate. Chrome extensions, including Private Bookmarks, run on desktop browsers only, so the private vault lives on your computer; if you need the same pages on your phone, open them from a note or a password manager instead of a synced bookmark. ## Frequently asked questions ### My bookmarks bar disappeared. Are the bookmarks gone? Open ⋯ -> Bookmarks; they are usually in a folder you didn't expect. ### How long does Bookmarks.bak last? There is no .bak file on this device; recovery goes through sync or another device. ### Can Google restore my bookmarks? Only what sync holds. Your Google Account keeps the current list, not old versions, so a deletion that synced is gone from the account too. ### Will I lose private bookmarks too? Private Bookmarks' vault is stored separately from Chrome (iPhone)'s profile and never synced.
