## Quick answer

In Microsoft Edge, right-click a favorite -> Edit, or click the blue star in the address bar on a saved page to rename it or move it. You can change the name, the address and the folder.

- **Edit:** right-click a favorite -> Edit, or click the blue star in the address bar on a saved page to rename it or move it
- **Fields:** Name, URL, folder
- **Several at once:** Select in the manager and drag to move; names are edited one by one

## Edit a favorite in Microsoft Edge

1. **Find the favorite** On the favorites bar, in the star menu, or in `edge://favorites`.
2. **Open Edit** right-click a favorite -> Edit, or click the blue star in the address bar on a saved page to rename it or move it.
3. **Change what you need** Shorten the name so it fits on the bar, paste a new address if the page moved, or pick another folder.
4. **Save** Click Save or Done. With sync on, the change reaches your other devices.

Menu labels change between versions of Edge; the shortcut and the internal address `edge://favorites` don't.

## Rename from the star

On a page you have already saved, the star in the address bar is filled. Click it to rename the favorite or move it, without opening the manager.

## Icons on the bar

Give a favorite an empty name and only its site icon shows on the favorites bar, which fits three times as many. Edge replaces the icon when you next visit the site.

## Keep some bookmarks out of Microsoft Edge altogether

Renaming a favorite to something vague is a common way to keep it from standing out; it still shows in the manager and in sync. [Private Bookmarks](/private-bookmarks) is our free extension that saves pages into an encrypted vault on this computer: AES-256-GCM, a key derived from your password, no account, no sync and no network access. Saved pages never appear in the favorites bar, in `edge://favorites` or in your Microsoft account, and the vault locks itself after a few minutes. Edge installs Chrome Web Store extensions. The first time, Edge asks you to allow extensions from other stores; click Allow, then Add to Chrome works as Get.
