> Ctrl+D, the star, and where the bookmark ends up.

## Quick answer

Press Ctrl+D (⌘+D on a Mac) on the page you want to keep, or click the heart in the address bar and choose a folder (Bookmarks bar, Speed Dial or another folder). The bookmark goes to the folder you pick; the bookmarks bar folder puts it on the bar.

- **Shortcut:** Ctrl+D (⌘+D on a Mac)
- **Button:** click the heart in the address bar and choose a folder (Bookmarks bar, Speed Dial or another folder)
- **Default folder:** The last folder you used; the bookmarks bar shows the Bookmarks bar folder

## Bookmark a page in Opera

1. **Open the page** In Opera, open the page you want to keep.
2. **Press Ctrl+D (⌘+D on a Mac)** Or click the heart in the address bar and choose a folder (Bookmarks bar, Speed Dial or another folder).
3. **Name it and pick a folder** Change the name if the page title is long and choose a folder. Done saves it.
4. **Find it again** From the bookmarks bar, the star menu, or `opera://bookmarks`. Typing in the address bar also suggests bookmarks.

Menu labels change between versions of Opera; the shortcut and the internal address `opera://bookmarks` don't.

## Bookmark all open tabs

Right-click any tab (or press Ctrl+Shift+D, ⌘+Shift+D on a Mac) and choose the option to bookmark all tabs. Opera makes a folder with one bookmark per tab, handy before closing a research session.

## Where new bookmarks go

Opera remembers the last folder you used. The Bookmarks bar folder shows on the bar; Other bookmarks and your own folders show in the manager and the star menu. Drag between folders in `opera://bookmarks` to tidy up later.

## Keep some bookmarks out of Opera altogether

Every bookmark you add this way is readable by anyone who opens Opera on this computer, and copied to every device that syncs with an Opera account. [Private Bookmarks](/private-bookmarks) is our free extension that saves pages into an encrypted vault on this computer: AES-256-GCM, a key derived from your password, no account, no sync and no network access. Saved pages never appear in the bookmarks bar, in `opera://bookmarks` or in an Opera account, and the vault locks itself after a few minutes. Opera installs Chrome Web Store extensions once the free "Install Chrome Extensions" add-on from Opera's own add-ons site is in place. After that, Add to Chrome becomes Add to Opera.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the keyboard shortcut to bookmark a page in Opera?

Ctrl+D (⌘+D on a Mac). It opens a small window to name the bookmark and choose a folder.

### Can I bookmark every open tab at once?

Yes. Right-click a tab, or press Ctrl+Shift+D (⌘+Shift+D on a Mac), and Opera saves every tab into a new folder.

### Where did my bookmark go?

Into the folder shown when you saved it. Open `opera://bookmarks` and search by name if you don't see it on the bar.

### Is a bookmark private?

No. It is stored in plain text in the profile and shown to anyone using Opera on this computer; with sync on it is copied to your other devices. For pages you want kept private, an encrypted vault such as Private Bookmarks is the only locked option.
