## Quick answer

Block Camera with Screen Time: go to iOS 27: Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Other Features -> Camera and turn it off. Then set a Screen Time passcode in Settings -> Screen Time -> Passcode & Management -> Lock Screen Time Settings so nobody can switch it back. It takes about 2 minutes.

- **Fastest way:** Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Other Features.
- **Make it stick:** Set a Screen Time passcode.
- **Own controls:** None beyond Screen Time.
- **Website:** Not applicable.

- **iOS version:** Any recent iOS
- **Time needed:** About 2 minutes
- **Difficulty:** Easy
- **Needs an app?:** No
- **Reversible?:** Yes, with the passcode
- **Deletes data?:** No

Camera comes with iPhone, and Screen Time can switch it off. Below: the steps, the passcode that makes it stick, and what a block doesn't stop.

We checked the iOS steps against Apple's iOS 27 documentation and Camera's settings against Apple's official help pages in October 2026.

## Method 1: Turn Camera off with Screen Time

1. **Open Screen Time** Go to iOS 27: Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Other Features -> Camera.
2. **Turn off Camera** Turn off Camera.
3. **Set a Screen Time passcode** Go to Settings -> Screen Time -> Passcode & Management -> Lock Screen Time Settings and set a passcode only you know.

Apple names Camera as a built-in feature you can allow or block here. iOS 26: Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Allowed Apps & Features, then turn off the app (it's hidden from the Home Screen until turned back on). On iOS 26, the setting was under **Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Allowed Apps & Features**.

**What this does not do:** it doesn't delete Camera or its data, and anyone with the Screen Time passcode can undo it.

## Which way to block Camera should you use?

| Situation | Best option |
|---|---|
| A child or teen using your Family Sharing group | Screen Time set up from your iPhone, with a Screen Time passcode |
| You want to cut your own use | Screen Time restriction |
| Block it as fully as possible | Screen Time restriction plus passcode |
| Stop others opening it, not you | Screen Time passcode |

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I block Camera on my iPhone?

Yes. Camera comes with iPhone, and Screen Time can turn it off under Content & Privacy Restrictions. Set a Screen Time passcode so the restriction can't be undone without it. Camera isn't deleted; it's just unavailable until you turn it back on.

### How do I block Camera on my child's iPhone?

Set up Screen Time for your child through Family Sharing, then add the Time Allowance or restriction from your own iPhone. Use a Screen Time passcode your child doesn't know. Requests for more time then come to you.

### Will blocking Camera delete it?

No. A Screen Time limit or restriction only stops Camera from opening. The app, its data and your account stay as they are. Remove the limit or restriction to use Camera again. Only Delete App removes it from the iPhone.

### Can a blocked Camera still be used in a browser?

A Time Allowance covers an app's declared website as well, Apple says. For other sites, block them from Settings -> Family on a child's iPhone, or under Web Content on iOS 26.

### How do I unblock Camera?

Go to Settings -> Screen Time, open Time Allowances (App Limits on iOS 26) or Content & Privacy Restrictions, and remove the limit or turn the app back on. You'll need the Screen Time passcode. For a child's iPhone, make the change from the parent's device.

## Bottom line

Screen Time can switch Camera off in about 2 minutes. The Screen Time passcode is what makes the block stick.
