### Archive

Touch and hold one or more messages, then tap Archive at the top. Archived mail leaves your inbox but stays under the All mail label.

### Confidential mode

Go to **Compose -> More options -> Confidential mode**. Set an expiration date for an email you send and choose whether a passcode is needed to open it. You can remove access early, but recipients can still take screenshots.

### Notification previews

Go to **Menu -> Settings -> Email notifications**. Under Notifications, tap Email notifications and choose a level, such as High priority only. If you have more than one account, change it for each account.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you lock Gmail on iPhone?

Yes. Touch and hold Gmail, tap Require Face ID and confirm. It then needs Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode to open. Gmail has no separate lock of its own.

### Can you hide Gmail on iPhone?

Yes. On iOS 18 or later, touch and hold Gmail, tap Require Face ID, then Hide and Require Face ID. It moves to the locked Hidden folder at the bottom of App Library and leaves search results.

### Does Gmail have its own passcode?

No. Gmail relies on iOS for locking. Use Require Face ID, which accepts Face ID, Touch ID or your iPhone passcode. For a separate code, Screen Time with its own passcode is an option.

### Do Gmail settings sync to my iPad?

The iOS lock and hidden status don't sync with iCloud; set them on each device. Gmail has an iPad app, so repeat the steps there.
